Wakefield High kicker Niklas Sade, one of the top place-kicking prospects in the country, has switched his college commitment from Nebraska to N.C. State.
Sade (pronounced Say-dee) is the No. 3 kicking prospect in the country, according to the Scout.com recruiting service. He made 83 of 85 extra-point attempts and 13 of 17 field-goal attempts during his high school career.
He also consistently kicks off into the end zone.
And the Wolfpack is in want of a place-kicker, with the release of senior kicker Josh Czajkowski, who tied the school's season record with 20 field goals in 2010.
Dan Orner, Sade's kicking coach, said Sade has been considering the interchange for a pair of weeks.
"His determination was a family decision and came downward to a pair of things," Orner said. "One thing was the chance to work for his hometown team. He has been an N.C. State fan for as long as I've known him. I suppose he has drawn his State gear to every workout we've had.
"And by passing to State, he will be a lot closer to his family. I mean the work of changing his decision got going after he and his family visited Lincoln. He can stay closer to his family."
Orner said the Wolfpack is acquiring a kicker who will be capable to add immediately.
"He is kicking off 70 to 75 yards now, and he is pretty comfortable hitting field goals from 50 yards," Orner said. "He is emphatically a big commitment for State. He should be capable to help it immediately."
A native of Munich, Sade grew up playing soccer in Germany. He switched to football after moving to Raleigh while in middle school.
Sade will work in the U.S. Army All-America game this Saturday in San Antonio (1 p.m. WNCN, WITN.)
N.C. State also has a dedication from punter Wil Baumann of Wilmington Hoggard. Baumann is the No. 3-ranked better in the country, according to Scout.com.
The commitments are not back on the players or the schools. Players may sign binding national letters of purpose on Feb. 2.
