RIVERDALE - A 51-33 victory marked the tenth win of the temper as the undefeated Christian Heritage Lady Crusaders' hosted the St. Joseph Jayhawks Tuesday night.
"They're really buying into the organization and acting like a team," coach Rob McGill said. "They're also having a lot of fun and I suppose that's the most significant thing.
Both teams struggled to take on to the egg in the low half as turnovers outnumbered points, but later in the back each team started to get their shooting rhythm.
Christian Heritage (10-0) was only playing with a bigger drum.
"We've never get this team that I can remember," McGill said. "I consider the girls were a small bit nervous but this was a ripe chance to see where we are and get this monkey off our back."
Averaging 20.33 points per game, it was no storm that Christian Heritage's Emilie Volk led scoring on the dark with 18 points. The sophomore forward also logged seven rebounds, seven steals, and six assists.
What may have surprised St Joseph (6-5) were the two other Crusaders in double figures as Breanna Hurlbut notched 13, and sister Brittany Hurlbut added 12.
St Joseph didn't shy away and made a push late in the 3rd quarter led by Katie Panushka's nine points and six rebounds on the night.
Sam Bischoff also contributed seven points and Tauna DeHaan's pair of 3-pointers aided the losing effort.
Christian Heritage also won the conflict of the boards, edging the Jayhawks 26-22.
Despite all the things the Crusaders are doing right though, McGill still sees room for improvement.
"They ran a triangle-and-two and a box-and-one against us and we want to get better at that," he said. "If we get that fixed-which I'm certain we will-by the end of the season we'll be just fine."
